Reliable source gave updates on DePuy Pinnacle

Highly reliable source -actually one of the attorneys of one of the largest law firms involved in the official recall case on DePuy ASR hip replacements- gave me an update on the situation regarding claims and law suits on the DePuy Pinnacle metal-on-metal device.

First, one needs to understand that legal and medical communities, and DePuy, all are focusing mainly on all issues and topics related to the official recall.

Secondly, the legal community realizes that there are hundreds and thousands of victims of the DePuy Pinnacle metal-on-metal devices out there, and actually some of the law firms represent people in lawsuits already.

Thirdly, the medical community takes a totally different approach. As an example, my surgeon stated that all people with metal implants will have elevated metal levels in their bloodstreams. He also made a statement to the extent that 'all them lawyers are only after the money of the billion dollar company [J&J/DePuy]'. In essence, my surgeon and many other members of the medical community will make similar statements, no matter whether it is in regards to the DePuy ASR or DePuy Pinnacle devices. On top of that, my source told me about one of his clients who just came back from another visit at his surgeon's office. This particular victim of a DePuy device had very high levels of metal, the doctor prescribed some kind of a medication, and the patient was told to come back in a year.
What does that all tell us? The answer is that a wide majority within the medical community tries to downplay serious issues with these DePuy devices. Like my surgeon, many act as advocates for DePuy, they don't seem to care about all the pain and suffering victims go through day in and day out.

The DePuy company appears to do anything possible as far as damage control. Reportedly, they set aside 922 million dollars case related. They also offer revision surgeries when certain criteria is met. But, and that is a huge BUT, who would still trust a company that even committed crimes in order to push their sales numbers of medical devices for years? Evidence for criminal acts can be found when you use an online search engine matching in 'DePuy's U.K. sales executive Robert John Dougall sentenced to prison'. He is the one that bribed the Greek government with 4.5 million British Pound -appr. 7 million dollars-, so Greek doctors and hospitals would use mainly DePuy hip replacement devices. You also easily find a series of headlines and links in regards to DePuy's illegal kickbacks to surgeons, DePuy's payments to the U.S. Attorney General in order to avoid criminal charges, and more of DePuy kickbacks to surgeons in 2009, and 2010, and more.

What does that all tell us? The average patient and victim of DePuy ASR and Pinnacle devices does not only have to live with always present violent pain, we also have to deal with doctors and surgeons that downplay facts, and we are also up against a multi-billion company that has shown it has and will use any ethically doubtful, legal or criminal method in order to increase profits. The only positive we as victims gather from all that: There are many members within the legal community that care about us victims. Like the reliable source I mentioned above. Even that I have not hired him nor any other law firm yet, he gave me his honest opinion on DePuy Pinnacle cases. In his opinion, we all will see news on the DePuy Pinnacle within the next 2 months.

Whether it will be an additional official recall, or whether it will remain all individual claims and lawsuits on the Pinnacle, the legal community expects a major ruling or decision on that within the next 2 months. While we are all waiting for that, I wish all fellow DePuy Pinnacle patients and victims the best, hopefully the one or the other relatively pain free minute -I did not have one of these in more than 2 years after surgery on 12/22/2008-, and justice prevailing for all.

As for my 5 cents left, I have to decide whether I keep living with all that terrible, never disappearing and always present pain, or whether I just put a bullet in my head. When a horse is lame it gets shot, so why not shoot a cripled man like me. I bet DePuy and members of the medical community would like that. I sure hope that myself, all the other DePuy victims, and all the honest members of the legal community will not go away.
