You may be thinking: What’s the big deal? Why do my Twitter profile and my website have to be coordinated? The answer is simple: You want to present a consistent online presence – one that highlights what you have to offer – wrapped up in your brand. Your Twitter profile bio should encourage people who would be interested in what you have to offer to click on your profile’s hot link. Then when they do so, what they see on your home page should be an extension of that “promise” in the Twitter bio. Let’s take an example: Perhaps your Twitter bio talks about the nutrition information packages that you’ve written for children and adults. A person clicks through on your Twitter profile’s hot link – and reads all about your efforts to use solar power to cool houses. A total disconnect. Now this does not mean you couldn’t talk about solar power on your website. But it does mean that either your Twitter bio should be about solar power or, if you leave your Twitter profile talking about nutrition, the first thing people should see on your website is more information about nutrition. When creating your online presence, remember that each piece is part of an integrated whole. If you change one piece of that whole, be sure to check whether the other pieces also need to be revised. © 2009 Miller Mosaic, LLC Phyllis Zimbler Miller (@ZimblerMiller on Twitter) has an M.B.A. from The Wharton School and is the Twitter marketing expert at Site-Booster.com.
